All that glitters is not gold, but at the 31st Annual Dawson City Gold Show it just might be! The weekend event starts today, celebrating the Klondike’s gold rush culture as well as its modern-day mining industry and, of course, the return of summer.
The Gold Show offers a fun time for industry insiders and casual consumers alike. Not only does the show celebrate mining history, it’s a favorite event of miners in this day and age. Miners and suppliers will convene here to exchange new ideas and products that are bringing innovation to the contemporary gold mining industry. They’ll also find time for some fun at show events like the Boardwalk Burlesque performance and the Bill Bowie Dinner.
The event is filled with booths, both indoors and outdoors, representing nearly every aspect of the gold and placer mining industries.
The Bill Bowie Dinner is a longstanding tradition at the Gold Show, dedicated (naturally) to Bill Bowie, a founding member of the Dawson City Gold Show and a champion of the Dawson City business community. The event includes a full dinner accompanied by an auction. If you plan on attending, don’t forget your red suspenders! It’s a tradition to sport them in honor of Bill.
The Boardwalk Burlesque performance following dinner sold out last year, and it’s a high-energy tribute to the gold rush history of the region. Skilled local dancers put on a an exciting show that will transport you right back to a bygone era that somehow still feels very present in a place like Dawson City.
If you’re lucky enough to be staying at the Westmark Inn Dawson City this weekend, do yourself a favor and head to the Gold Show to check out one of the hallmark industries of Dawson City and the exciting culture that surrounds it.
