Posted in Featured, Things To Do In Alaska

Picture this: you’re in Alaska, surrounded by mountains, glaciers, rivers and wildlife and you’re dancing your heart out to some of the best live music by artists from Alaska and beyond. Now pinch yourself, because you’re not dreaming! There’s sure to be a summer concert very near your Westmark Hotel no matter what time of summer you come. Mark your calendars for these concerts we’re getting excited about.

Anchorage

If you’re looking for live music in Anchorage, there is no shortage of options. Check out Van’s Dive Bar where bands are jamming most nights of the week on anything from Grateful Dead to Motown (and there’s never a cover), or take a short drive to Girdwood for the Monday night Salmon Bake & Acoustic Music series for food, music and views that can’t be beat. That’s not all! Check out this comprehensive list of live music venues from the Anchorage Press.

Fairbanks

The Tanana Valley State Fair, August 3-11, has no shortage of live music. If you’re not committed to purchasing tickets to any show just yet, throughout the rest of July you can catch free concerts on Tuesdays and Fridays at lunch and every Wednesday evening at the Golden Heart Plaza (pro tip: Wednesday evening concerts come with free ice cream). Also plan to check out the Far North Fiddle Fest and a few of the live music venues like the Blue Loon, the Howling Dog Saloon or the Jazz Bistro on 4th.

If you’re looking for more of a large-scale concert or festival experience, Alaska has that, too! There’s nothing quite like a full weekend of music and if you don’t mind a drive, join more than 8,000 attendees in Ninilchik for Salmonfest, a dynamic festival you’ll never forget. Or, head to the Alaska Airlines Center for Gary Allan in August and Portugal the Man in October. One last can’t-miss music event near Anchorage is the Alaska State Fair’s AT&T Concert Series. Catch performances by the Goo Goo Dolls, Lindsey Sterling and more!
