Posted in Things To Do In Alaska

Fairbanks is located in the heart of Interior Alaska and is the second-largest city in the state. It is considered the coldest city in the region, with an average winter temperature of around minus 11 degrees. Luckily, even with low temperatures, there are still plenty of activities to do all winter long. Bundle up and keep reading to explore our favorite things Fairbanks has to offer this winter!

1. Dancing Lights at the Ice Art Park

This glowing event at the Ice Art Park is an annual family-friendly community event that includes spectacularly lit ice sculptures. Pack a bag of your favorite snacks, grab a cup of hot cocoa and pile into the car to drive through the sculptures. February 1-24, the park is open during the day for ice viewing. Dress warm because there is even an ice slide for the kids!

2. Yoga and beer at Lat 65 Brewing Co.

In the pursuit of hoppiness, Fairbanks’ Lat 65 Brewing Co. is hosting beer yoga! Enjoy a fun but relaxing yoga session on February 5 or 19 followed up with a Lat 65 brew. Yoga is open for all ages with a legal guardian over 21. For anyone who doesn’t drink alcohol and for the under-21 crowd, there’s root beer on tap too. Check their website for upcoming events. Bottoms up!

3. Visit the Museum of the North

The Museum of the North at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is a great place to learn more about Alaska Native cultures, the state’s diverse wildlife (all the way back to the dinosaurs) and the important research being done by museum scientists. Be sure to check out the latest addition to the Museum of the North — the famous Bus 142 from “Into the Wild.” The public can now view the bus at the ConocoPhillips Alaska High Bay Structural Testing Lab at the Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility near the museum on the UAF campus. Or check the livestream to see it any time.

No matter the activities you choose to do with your friends and family in Fairbanks, it will be nothing short of a unique experience. In between all your winter activities, make sure you rest up at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel to be ready for the next day’s adventures.
